Mats J. Olsson - Biography#


Mats J. Olsson earned his PhD from Stockholm University. He was offered a post doc first at Yale University and then University of Californa at San Diego. Coming back to Sweden he worked and became full professor at Uppsala university. Since 2008 he is professor of Experimental Psychology at Karolinska Institutet. In 2015 he was chosen to the head of his division and in 2017 he was chosen to be the Head of his department, the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Karolinka's second largest department focusing on neuroscience and its related clinical conditions (MS, psychosis, Parkinson, drug addiction, psychological treatment to name a few).

Although partly devoted to teaching and leadership, Olsson also has a strong research focus on the human sense of smell going from psychophysics, perception, memory, metamemory and more lately to chemical communication and cognitive neuroscience. He has published approx. 70 papers, among which several in generic journals like PNAS, Psychological Science, Proceedings of the Royal Society B, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B and Scientific Reports. His has been member for many years in the Association or Chemosensory Sciences and the European Chemosensory Research Organisation.
