COOPERATION, EVOLUTIONARY FORCE

LYNN MARGULIS, 10 YEARS LATER

Lynn Margulis (1938-2011) was an American biologist who expanded Darwin’s theory of evolution by incorporating symbiosis as an evolutionary force, developing the theory of endosymbiosis, already proposed since the 19th century.

Margulis’ theory was demonstrated in the late 1970s and is widely accepted by the scientific community, but still little known by society as a whole.

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of her death, scientific and cultural organizations have decided to organize events commemorating and disseminating the contributions of Lynn Margulis and in memory of her person: round tables, exhibitions and documentary screenings. Cooperatively, we have decided to group these events in the commemorative weeks: “Cooperation, evolutionary force. Lynn Margulis, 10 years later ”.
